SCHROTT WALTNER

THE SPECIALIST IN METALS, DISMANTLING & DISPOSAL.

The traditional Graz-based company boasts more than 90 years of experience in the professional collection, sorting, processing and subsequent professional recycling and disposal of scrap iron and non-ferrous metals. Operating throughout Austria, the company offers cost-effective and customer-oriented total solutions for waste disposal companies, manufacturing and processing operations, large-scale industry, energy suppliers, the automotive industry, municipalities, farmers and private households.

Key advantages

50 employees at the two locations in Graz and in the field ensure service-oriented and personalised customer care: from purchasing to homogeneous charge bundling to controlled delivery to the steelworks or foundry. We tailor our total solutions to meet individual customer requirements with the highest level of quality and flexibility.

Scrap metal is logistically intensive. That is why optimised disposal logistics and the latest processing technology are essential for the rapid processing and recycling of scrap iron and non-ferrous metals. The process takes an average of two working days from acceptance to delivery of the processed scrap metal at Schrott-Waltner. Our own fleet of 15 articulated lorries – equipped with the latest disposal equipment and a large container pool – guarantees prompt and clean scrap collection at the point of disposal. After extensive material and safety checks, some of the scrap is sorted by six large excavators and some by hand, and the non-recyclable material is separated. The recyclable scrap and metal parts are then cut into standardised dimensions (in accordance with the European list of scrap types) or into the size requested by industrial customers using two 800 or 900 tonne large shears or autogenous cutting torches. For ecological reasons, the prepared secondary raw material is mainly loaded onto trains.

Customers and buyers benefit from the fact that Schrott-Waltner has the support of an international network. The advantages of belonging to REON GROUP certainly include not only creditworthiness and reliability, but also synergies in processing and (international) distribution opportunities.

What sounds obvious is reflected in the low-emission and low-noise vehicle fleet, as well as in the environmental awareness that extends beyond the legal requirements. The management systems were designed in accordance with the quality management standard ISO 9001 and the environmental management standard ISO 14001. The implementation and continuous improvement of management systems are an integral part of the Schrott-Waltner corporate philosophy. The ongoing checks are carried out by external auditors and the Styrian environmental authorities.

Scrap metal is valuable

There is a great demand for steel and non-ferrous metal scrap worldwide. Natural resources are running out and the costs of extracting and transporting primary raw materials are increasing. The solution to the problem lies in recycling. Iron and metal scrap can be melted down as often as required and processed into new steel and metal goods without any loss of quality. Today, more than half of the steel produced worldwide is therefore made from scrap. For example, when aluminium is scrapped, only about 5% of the energy required to produce primary aluminium is needed to produce ‘secondary aluminium’. This makes scrap valuable. As a contribution to environmental and resource protection and as an economic consideration: Existing materials are returned to the economic cycle as a cost-effective, high-quality and pure secondary raw material.
